Established in 2000, Challenger Lighting Services has built a strong reputation as a trusted lighting partner across the UK and EU. From the very beginning, our focus has been on creating energy-efficient, reliable, and cost-effective luminaires that help organisations reduce costs and improve sustainability.
Over the years, we’ve grown from manufacturing luminaires to delivering end-to-end LED lighting services, including design, installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance. Our Journey
Our Foundation (2000)
Established in 2000 following Years of manufacturing energy efficient luminaires, Challenger Lighting Services was instigated to satisfy lighting maintenance issues for major Organisations with multiple outlets throughout the UK and EU.
Driving Change (2010)
Culminating in 2010 with the introduction of LED technology generating diversification into installation, commissioning and maintenance – generally upgrading old technologies and today replacing first generation LED luminaires – ‘revitalising’ where possible, supporting the circular economy. Constantly pushing component manufacturers to review performance of new developments relating to ease of maintenance for the 2 major components – LED Cobs and Strips. Not ignoring Drivers which is the weakest point in luminaires, avoiding circular economy issues for the future

Leading Innovation (2025)
We recently carried out work on a London site – utilising Bluetooth technology to communicate with 39 on site fittings for emergency lighting, testing, reporting failures and imminent failures. We reduced the emergency lighting units from 82 to 39 – reducing costs for the future utilising Lens technology and lithium batteries -albeit the important component is the LENS - LIGHT distribution. Not only do we achieve specified emergency light levels across the retail area, we also reduce energy and service costs over time.
Quality and Testing
Quality and testing are paramount at Challenger. We leverage emerging technologies and our dedicated Challenger Technicians ensure high-performance standards. Our Information Technology and administrative practices provide full visibility of actions and costs, with real-time site information and quality application — Challenger LIVE — from the day of our first intervention by site and by organisation allowing customers to view important information site by site such as usages, issues and surveys
Commitment to Sustainability
Over the past 24 months, we’ve observed increased failures in LED fittings, particularly with drivers. Rather than replacing luminaires, we refurbish fittings with new drivers and LED strips / Cobs at a fraction of the upgrade cost for new fittings, achieving overall savings of around 40% without compromising quality or life expectancy.
This revitalisation also contributes to the circular economy. This work includes investing in mobile workshops for on-site repairs, supporting sustainability, reducing energy consumption and waste, supporting the circular economy and a sustainable future.
